I was born and raised in Hillsboro, Maryland, a small, rural river town on the Eastern Shore, about 30 miles east of Annapolis / the Chesapeake Bay. As a country boy, I was outside all the time—playing with friends, hunting/fishing, ice skating, water skiing, or enjoying the surf at the Delaware or Maryland beach towns.

In 1981, I entered Loyola University in Baltimore, MD, whereby I majored in Business Administration with a focus in Marketing. After graduating May 1985, I shortly thereafter started working at T. Rowe Price & Associates in Baltimore, a large mutual funds management company. A few years later, I relocated to Richmond, Virginia, and in 1989 I started my MBA program at Virginia Commonwealth University, focusing on Finance, completing this MBA in May 1992. During graduate school, I interned at a successful computer leasing company, assisting the CFO with financial analyses and accounting functions. From there, I went to work for a Richmond-based regional bank in its Trust Department, reading trusts to ensure that various wording and structures were up to date. This mundane, sedate job engendered dreams of more fulfilling, purposeful work in the field of finance and investments. I knew I wanted to use my experience from working at T. Rowe Price, my marketing skills and finance knowledge.

In 1995, I moved to the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area of North Carolina – the Triangle – and worked with an acquaintance representing investments in 403(b) retirement savings plans to educators at schools and colleges/universities. Living near Chapel Hill, I allocated much of my time in marketing my services to faculty and staff at the University of North Carolina. I also marketed to public school districts in and around the rapidly growing Triangle area. A month after relocating to NC, I met a fun and sweet lass at Wrightsville Beach, NC, who is now my lovely wife. We have two children born 1999 and 2003.

Several years later, in March 2006, I began working for a large mutual insurance company, continuing to provide retirement and investment planning services but also representing life insurance, disability income insurance and long-term care insurance. This move was catapulted by two separate incidences in 2005, whereby clients had called me with unfortunate news regarding a family member, and why they were having to stop their retirement savings contributions and invade that savings for their loved one’s needs. I then decided there was more to retirement planning than simply investing.

In 2011, I returned to the independent side of investments and insurance planning. My practice involves helping clients with the pursuit of their financial and retirement goals, and with protecting their and their loved one’s lifestyle.
